The Lunch Hour
THE LUNCH HOUR is set in a box-office call centre and begins as what seems a conventional drama: a bunch of would-be artists make ends meet while planning their next “big project”; their nemesis is Martin the sterotypical boss; endless procrastination is their signature.
These characters are chasing a deadline for a group written project ("Aspects of Martin”) and a large cash prize. As the stakes rise the play turns in on itself becoming a play within a prize-winning play penned by Martin and left on their desks as a kind of farewell gift: “The Lunch Hour”
THE LUNCH HOUR is about what we all do to get through the day – the games we play, the distractions we create. It is also about the creative process; the pain of not being able to realize your dreams; the need for artists to over-come fear and use their own experiences to make their art; and how the hardest part of starting or finishing anything in life is becoming psychologically ready.
THE LUNCH HOUR is Chris Aronsten's full-length follow up to HUMAN RESOURCES and is every bit as ambitious, dark and hilarious.
